AT A GLANCE
- Choose by your market: early varieties for an early sale, main-season varieties for yield and storage, processing varieties for chips and fries.
- “Kufri” varieties are bred by ICAR–CPRI; buy certified seed of the exact variety.
- Maturity and yield depend on planting date, seed and management — figures here are typical.

How to choose
- Selling early, when prices are often higher? Grow an early variety and plant in early October.
- Storing in a cold store to sell later? A main-season variety with good keeping quality suits best.
- Growing for a chips or fries company? Use the processing variety they ask for — they usually specify it in the contract.
- Where late blight is frequent, prefer varieties bred for resistance and plan preventive sprays.
